Today's weather was nice and cool, in the low 60's. But with winds from the South-West. I felt good out the door. It didn't take long before I got warmed up. I made it to the end of OTR in average time. The Banducci climb was a treat as I had a nice tailwind. I was able to use my 32T over the top of the wall. It worked well. I did the entire climb between moderate to good tempo. After reaching the summit, I took a 30 second break. Checked traffic, and flew down the descent. It was mostly fun and games, although a bit dangerous as acceleration was more prominent due to the tailwind. Going to SS on the false flats was a blast. I had a perfect tailwind, so I was doing 27mph+ for most of the way out there. Once there, I began the torturous return leg. I had either a head or crosswind as I was making my way back. I put it into moderate and sometimes good tempo at this point in the ride. All the time I gained going out to SS was wiped out. In fact, I lost about 7 to 8 minutes just on the wind itself. The last climb was tough, but not impossible. The canyons provided some shelter from the wind and even reversed it on some sections. After summiting the last climb, I took it easy on the last false flats of the day. Route 202 on the return proved to be challenging with respect to the traffic. I had to be careful as I could not lift the pace much higher than 20-25mph. Needless to say, I made it safe. The remainder of the ride was mostly fund and games. My concentration was good for the most part, no serious gremlins today. Ailments consisted of some right hand numbness, minor lower back fatigue, and some hip soreness. Nothing that couldn't be mitigated by slowing up a bit and stretching. Balance and form was good. I found it easier to maintain balance by looking up the road towards the horizon. Gear is working well, no problems there. There were some mystery clicks today that seemed to come from the rear/right side while out of the saddle. Other notes, I saw one other cyclist and of all things, a uni-cyclist, that's first (it made me smile).
Other note, I saw no activity with regards to the race fiber optic internet service to be installed in SS.
Other notes. Today was ride #800.
