Pancake breakfasts are back!!!
Because of Escape From Alcatraz closing off all the roads where I would normally park, I ended up parking at Mike's Bikes in Sausalito instead. Such a great move for today.
It was supposed to be warm today and I was hoping that it was going to be nice in Sausalito and I wouldn't have to bring any layers. Well it wasn't, it was foggy and chilly and I brought ALL the layers. In the end, that worked out because it never really got that warm in Sausalito or Tennessee Valley.
Up on Mt. Tam, it was a whole different story. It was SO hot. And for some reason, everyone raced up Old Railroad Grade. I woke up late and didn't get to eat first breakfast so towards the top, I was getting really hungry.
There weren't that many people there for the pancakes and there wasn't even a line when we got there. I was so hungry, I didn't even take any photos of my breakfast! 😱
I talked half the crew into doing Laurel Dell (and Rock Springs). On the way up to East Peak, it was even hotter than before and I was regretting my decision to the bonus dirt but since I'd dragged everyone else with me, I was committed. I was really trying to pace myself so as not to overheat on all of the climbs.
When we got to Rocksprings, part of the crew decided it was too hot and headed down. The smart thing to do would've been to go down but we continued on to Laurel Dell.
At the start of Rock Springs, I wasn't feeling good and it felt like the start of heat stroke but after that initial pitch I settled down and felt better. The climb wasn't as bad as I remembered it actually. Laurel Dell was a so much fun - a beautiful dirt roller coaster.
On the way back down to Pantoll Station, towards the bottom, we went through a temperature gradient and it went from hot to actually cold. The temperature dropped 15C/30F.
Deer Park was quite bumpy. I thought I'd like it better than Coastal Trail but I'm not sure that I do.
Middle Green Gulch was steeper than I remembered it. Maybe because we were all kind of tired by the time we got there. I am very happy that I have the 50t now though.
At the top, we decided to get food at Pizza Hacker (because Liz thought the pancakes were going to be all-you-can-eat and didn't pack extra food. :) ) Mostly because of the wind, it was really chilly while we were eating and I was starting to shiver towards the end.
I was so happy that I was so close to the car after eating. I really didn't want to deal with the bridge which was supposed to be really windy today.
