Just like the first ride, I rode with Mike & Jenny (only a different Jenny this time ๐).
The trails were kinda sandy but after a while I forgot about it. It was so much fun and the weather was perfect.
There was a race going on at Laguna Seca so we checked it out for a bit. Then descending Pilarcitos Canyon Rd. a bug hit me in the lip and almost went in my mouth. It stung for a bit and I found out later that it gave me a bit of a fat lip.
So many fun trails but Trail 75 was the only new one today. I think it was an accidental Strava routing but whatever, it was fun. It was also the most technical trail of the day. Which is to say, not that technical, since Fort Ord is mostly pretty smooth. Trail 75 had some mild rock gardens that you could also ride around.
Trail 84 has some fun jumps where we all caught some air.
Trail 49 and 44 are great flow trails. Trail 41 is one of my favorites but it has more ups and downs than I remembered.
Trail 50 is a beautiful trail that I've only ever climbed and I think it would be really fun to descend it.
The steepest climb on the route is on Lookout Ridge Rd. Last time on the gravel bike I lost traction half way up and had to hike the rest of it. This time I cleared the whole thing while Mike and Jenny watched in awe. :P I was pretty happy with myself.
I also cleared that tricky part on Trail 41 just before the lookout with the bench.
Just overall, so much more fun on the Epic EVO. The down hill switchbacks, even when they were sandy or bumpy, didn't bother me at all. I know they're the same radius as other switchbacks that I usually walk. I think the key is the fact that they're not nearly as steep.
I almost forgot, right at the beginning of the ride, Mike went up one of those trails on the side of the hill and got caught up in some trees and came off of the hill a little out of control and a) nearly went over his bars and b) nearly took me out - almost t-boned my front wheel but I stopped in time. Mostly it was just funny because nothing bad happened but still...
