The temperature was steamy all night and sometime well before sunrise I was awakened by a series of loud thunderclaps and lightning and periods of rain. In my dreaminess and groggy state I was thinking that maybe there's some natural phenomena that makes thunder every night even without rain, and that's how the park got its name. But of course it was normal natural thunderstorm activity, the forecasts were wrong again. I went back to sleep a couple times but it was fitful. Sunrise came and the sky had cleared but a quick glance at the radar showed more on the way. I decided to go ahead and get moving and hoped to make it to town before it hit. The terrain was really hilly and eventually I was caught by rain. I rode through it and it rained off and on till I reached Milan. It began to rain steadily and I pulled into a large Hy Vee to take shelter. I glanced at the radar and decided to wait it out till it passed over. I got a hot chocolate from the Starbucks inside to look legit while I stood underneath the overhang from the drive through pharmacy, the only shelter outside. After a good while it passed over and I made a run for the Dick's to hopefully get a new fuel canister. It was in an old mall and the rain had resumed pouring again as I rolled up. They didn't have any small ones so I pushed on, and actually found one at the Walmart down the road. It rained lightly off and on but not too bad. I rode by the John Deere HQ, which was perfectly manicured down to every leaf and blade of grass. A series of very quiet roads led me to the Hennepin Canal Trail. I followed it for a few miles to the nice little town of Geneseo where I'll wait out tomorrow's bad weather in a hotel.
