It's Bob's birthday tomorrow and Daylight Saving ends.
The guys were saying they were slow and wanted to do something flat so for the third time in four weekends, I was doing Baylands/Bay Trail/levee gravel again. I'm not complaining because the gravel is wonderfully smooth and the trails and views are nice. The guys rode their gravel bikes but I think I had the better combo riding on the road wheelset for my Thesis.
We decided to got CCW this time to get the tailwind on the Coyote Hills levee and hopefully avoid the post-lunch headwind around the southern tip of the Bay. I think we mostly succeeded but still managed to get headwind even though we were going the opposite way, just not as bad.
On the way to lunch, I think we sprinted three times to make left turn lights.
The weather was perfect once again - not too hot, not too cold. I only ended up drinking two water bottles. In fact, after lunch, I didn't go for a drink until after the Dumbarton Bridge. That's when I reached down and found an empty water bottle cage. I stopped to take a photo on the Coyote Hills levee and then booked it to catch back up to the guys on really the only semi-rough section of gravel. At one point, I thought I'd better slow down because I was hitting the bumps pretty hard. I suspect that was when my bottle decided to yeet out of the cage. I don't really know how it could've flown out without hitting me or the bike or me completely not noticing but it did. Really, we didn't ride anything rough enough that a bottle should've come flying out.
This was the same bottle that yeeted itself out on a descent at Lassen. Coincidence? 🤔
