Great day but any longer and I would’ve died. My legs were on the verge of cramping from Bon Tempe to the end. It was spicy!!! 🌶🌶🌶
I wish it was a little more photo pace as there was a lot of beautiful scenery that went uncaptured. We were ripping the trails a little too quickly to safely shoot.
The MTB was so the right call for this ride especially for Jewell and the north end of Bolinas Ridge which is really bumpy without suspension. Also way more fun on the descents.
Did a bunch of new trails, especially at the beginning. First time doing White Hill Fire Rd., San Geronimo Ridge Rd. and Bolinas Ridge in this direction. It's much better the other way.
Climbing the rocky sections on White Hill and San Geronimo, it's easier to roll through them descending. Climbing, I'd get hung up and I had to walk a bunch of stuff.
The relentless and steep climbing in this direction was as mentally challenging as it was physical. It didn't help that I didn't get lunch when we stopped at Lagunitas Grocery. Big mistake and I heard later, uncharacteristic for one of Mike's rides. They don't normally do a stop for a meal. Also didn't help that I carried an extra liter of water just in case we couldn't get water... we were able to.
The bars just don't cut it for me. The first one is usually okay but after that I tend not to really want to eat them. They're too sweet. But I knew ahead of time that we wouldn't be stopping for a meal so I brought enough food, at least I thought I did.
After eating a bar, I could feel the energy but they never lasted long enough.
At the start, I was over-dressed and over-heating. According to the forecast it was supposed to be cold. Sam P. Taylor was probably the coldest point on the ride. And most of the rest of the ride, I was probably dressed just right.
Post ride we went to Red Boy Pizza where Kenny devoured an entire large Hawaiian pizza by himself.
