It's raining out. So, an indoor ride was called for. I chose the Watopia Mountain Loop. I went in with a plan. I was to do the climb without red-lining the entire way. When I got to the base, I was warmed up and good to go. In the first half mile or so, I was out of the saddle till I reached the bridge. From there, I set down and continued at a moderate tempo. Just enough to keep the leg warmth going. Once across the bridge, I began the higher tempo. Doing no less than moderate. I was out of the saddle most of the time doing about 3 W/kg + or -. I was in the saddle to relax the legs and hands and also to wipe sweat and hydrate. This was a rinse and repeat procedure till I reached the last half mile or so. I stepped up the wattage in the last 1/4 mile or so. When I reached the summit, I was about 30 to 40 seconds off my PB (plus or minus). I finished around 34th out of 75-ish riders. So, in the middle of the pack. From there, I did the bonus climb. One of these days, I'm going to reduce the difficulty level so that I can have a better gear selection for this climb. I was in my smallest gear most of the time. I took a few moments rest when I reached the summit, and then made my way down the mountain. Mostly soft pedaling and stretching here and there. The last segment was going through the docks and back to the beach. I tried to keep my momentum going in and out of the saddle. I put in a dig through the sprint zone. I think I did better placing there than on the climb. To the defense of others, most weren't trying. After reaching the finish, I went into cool down. After the 20 mile mark I brought the HR to 112 BPM, and that was it. Concentration was good. The morale was good. Music helped. Balance and form was good. Ailments, hand soreness and numbness while out of the saddle for extended periods. Sitting and shaking them helped. Nutrition was good. No hunger signs. I drank about half my Gatorade, no water. Gear worked flawless. Other notes, there were about 3000 riders on this map when I started.
