The weather is bit cold, below 50 with the wind conditions going to the East. I didn't want to ride indoors, so I headed to SS instead. There was a wind advisory, so I kept that in mind. Just reminding myself that I'd have a tailwind on the way back. It was a very slow march on the way out. I made it to the end of OTR in average time at best. The Banducci Wall was traffic mitigation plus the grind. The remainder of the climb was more of the same. I took a few moments rest at the summit. Checked the GoPro battery, at 60%-ish. After a minute or two, I headed down the mountain. I was getting tossed around. The way out to SS was directly into the wind. I was doing less than 15 MPH most of the time. At least I had a bike lane to ride on. After making it around the backside, I was able to breath a sigh of relief. The tough part was behind me. I made my way down the hill and stopped at the local park for a nature break. I passed the tunnel in about 1:12:45 hrs. I got back on the road and made my way around town and back to Banducci. Going East was aided by a generous headwind. I already burnt a lot of matches at that point, so I had to conserve a bit. Going north was inhibited by the wind turning into a cross wind. I was grinding at about 15 MPH most of the time. I reached Boss Hogs in about 1:35 hours. I wasn't surprised at how much time I gave up. Just before the last climb, I pulled over to swap out the GoPro battery. A couple pulled over on their truck to ask if I was ok. I gave them a smile and said (thankfully) yes. The last climb was mostly aided by a tailwind, but there were some places where the wind was turbulent. I kept my tempo moderate, no digs over the summit. I pulled over once more to take photos of some local animals. Route 202 had some traffic, but I was able to ride to OTR without too many troubles. As I was making my way down OTR, I was getting nature break signs, so I had incentive. Suffice it to say, I made it back in time. Concentration was the worst today. I think it was the initial wind conditions that pulled me to the side. So, lots of reeling it in moments. Balance and form was good. I was having to lean into the wind on many occasions. Ailments were minimal. Just the exhaustion from the effort I put out. Nutrition was good. No hunger signs, I still had some Gatorade left and drank a few sips of water. Gear worked perfect. I had to adjust the saddle by rotating in CW just a bit. Other notes, there were only runners today. No cyclists.
