I was planning on a climbing day outdoors. It was foggy when I got up, so I had to change my plan. I decided on the Zwift Innsbruck Lutscher route. The plan was to do a negative split. The legs were a bit cold to start, but got warmed up enough by the time the first lcimb started. I started off modest. Probably around 2 to 2.5 W/kg. Keeping the tempo nice and steady through out the climb. I was keeping it around 3 W/kg when the climbing legs set in. I wasn't sure what time I was going to post, but I figured it would be 30 minutes, plus or minus two minutes. I was out of the saddle on the more steep gradients. In the saddle to recover, wipe sweat and hydrate. My right knee started to bother me nearing the summit. I was having to sit in the saddle and spin. I made it to the summit in about 31 minutes or so. When I made it to the downhill, I hopped off the trainer to adjust the saddle height. I raised it by close to an inch. That seemed to help the knee a bit, but it was still sore. I was debating on scratching the second lap, but decided to give it a go. I'm glad I made that decision because the knee came around. Changing the saddle height, stretching and giving it time to recover seemed to do the trick. The second lap went faster, both in time and perception. I felt good. I was able to put a bit more power into the pedals. I reached the summit in about 29 minutes and change. Posting a 30 day PR and a negative split. From there, I headed down the mountain and into town. I decided to keep riding till I reached the start / finish, as I don't recall the last time I did that. I happened at around 21 miles or so. After that, I commenced the cooldown phase. Allowing the HR to return to 112 BPM. Concentration was good. The morale felt good. I was happy to get a training session in. Nutrition was good. No hunger signs, I had half my Gatorade no water. Gear worked flawless. Although, I did notice that I squashed the power cable under the trainer. Fortunately, it seems to be ok. Balance and form was good. Ailments, hand numbness while out of the saddle. It required that I sit down and let the circulation back into the hands. The right knee was sore for about 10 minutes. I let up, spun the gears while in the saddle, stretched, raised the saddle height. That seemed to help. Other notes, there were about 650 riders when I started. I'm not sure what my KOM times were. I was in the middle of the pack on the first lap. Not so sure on the second.
