Zack was passing through on his way up to Oregon and called a Send It Saturday. The weather wasn't nearly as nice as the last time we rode Half Moon Bay together but nicer than when I rode HMB a month ago. It was foggy but at least it was warm.
I think there were roughly 30 people on the ride give or take. I was originally going to ride the Epic EVO but didn't really want to climb Tunitas on it. In hindsight, I don't think it would've been any slower.
It's been a while since I've taken the Thesis out and immediately I'm reminded of how great a bike it is. It was also probably the better bike for the last part of the ride where the pace got spicy and the need to be aero was high.
When we got to the cypress tree tunnel at Wavecrest. I stopped just before entering the main part of the tunnel to get photos and the person that took over the leading duties didn't have the route and went off on a trail next to it. I didn't realize it and he took the whole group away, missing one of the signature parts of this ride. 🤦🏻♂️ Oops!
We stopped at the Bike Hut where they were holding the awards reception for the Bike Hut Classic. Saw Bob and Sonny there as Bob was picking up his t-shirt for participating. And I saw Robin descending Tunitas as I climbed it.
Zack got a flat climbing Tunitas. Worried about being behind schedule we called an audible and decided to descend Purisima Creek instead of the planned Whittemore Gulch. Here's where I wish I had the Epic, which is so much more fun on the descents.
I stopped near the top of Higgins Canyon to get photos and then did some photo intervals to race back to the front. This is when the pace picked up considerably, where it was much more chill before. Good fun and I wouldn't have made it all the way back to the front if I didn't get a strong pull from <insert name here when I figure that out 😂>
Dad's was good as always but still overcast and a little chilly.
