After determining there was easy breathing at 5000 ft, went up the hill to 6000+ and added some climbing. Turns out, elevation matters! There was much huffing and puffing, though the heart rate never got beyond what would be expected for climbing like that in Maryland. Didn’t have issues with the climbing at all, other than the breathing. Of course, the giant rock walls and various super-technical rocks starting around 4.75 produced quite a bit of hike-a-bike with no shame here. That happens in the boulders above Frederick, MD, too. Fabulous scenery. Weird plants. Lizards. Hummingbird mistaking my red glove for something good (not much red up there — lots of brown and grey and muted greens). The view into the valley …. Took what seemed like a long time to ride 10 miles (see stoppage time) but totally worth the effort.
