It's my ride today and we have a new companion, a gent called Bob from Uxbridge joins us. The rest are the usual suspects: A very colourful Chris Kinsey, Graham Orford, Iain MacDonald, John MacMillan, and Colin Stewart.
I manage to lose Iain and Chris at Mahjack's roundabout. We had taken the first exit (Cowley Rd) then through the park. They had been held up at the traffic lights and assumed we'd gone straight up Chandlers Hill. After a quick phone call, we arrange to meet at elevenses. We continue to Cowley Mill Rd, past Pinewood, and catch up with Dave Peck and John Hare by Templewood Lane. We all meet up again at Burnham Beeches cafe,
Leaving Dave and John H, we head through the Beeches. With a 10km run in progress, my route is diverted quite a bit but we eventually reach Burnham itself. At the bottom of Berry Hill is a splendid new roundabout which makes joining the Bath Road by Maidenhead Bridge a lot safer than before. Onward through Bray, White Waltham and Shurlock Row, we finally reach our lunch stop The New Leathern Bottle at Jealots Hill. After ordering food, there is an interminable wait of nearly an hour for it to arrive. I complain to the waitress who says it's all down to the size of the kitchen. Even so it would have been nice to be forewarned.
We return via Fifield, Dorney and route 61 to Trenches Farm. Our tea stop is Iver Golf Club. After refreshments we head towards Mansion Lane, picking our way through parked vehicles, caravans and brambles. Graham and Colin decide not to follow. The remainder of the team split near Cowley.
