My ride. Following me today are Jim Swan, Iain MacDonald, John MacMillan, Phil Hallewell, and Cliff Jones.
We head north east through Ickenham Ruislip and Pinner, stopping at Morrisons, Hatch End for elevenses. I find Phil sitting next to an elderly gentleman who I don't at first recognise. It turns out to be long lost Loiterer, Dennis Ashley. Wanting to surprise Cliff, we get Dennis to lower his hat to hide his face. It doesn't work, because Cliff recognises his knees. Sounds like the basis for a club quizz.
After saying our goodbyes, we head for the hills, Stanmore to be precise. Iain and I nearly collide at the junction of the A5 and A41, when I slam on the anchors to allow some cars onto the roundabout. Then it's left at Elstree towards Letchmore Heath. Past Radlett we arrive at our lunch stop, The Orchard Tea Room, Shenley Park. I rather expect the place to be heaving, but maybe they are all at the outdoor concert being held nearby. My falafel wrap with salad, looks decidedly anaemic next to the double egg beans and sausage consumed by most.
We start our return journey, via Shenleybury, Colney Street and Bricket Wood. At Watford, we join route 61 all the way to Rickmansworth. We stop at The Pennsylvanian, so that those deprived of alcohol at lunch time, can replenish their reserves.
Jim leads us back through the Aquadrome, by road and canal towpath, we eventually reach Denham Church. Jim manages to sneak a quick slice of cake before the doors shut. Another good ride with fine weather.
