The weather has cooled of considerably today. In the mid 70's when I got out the door. Winds from the North West, and increased as the ride went on. My legs felt average going out the door. I was able to start faster than the previous ride, since this was a short double. I was warmed up by the time I reached the end of OTR. When I started the Banducci wall, it didn't take much time for me to settle into a good pace. I increased the effort as the climb went on. Near maximum over the top. The false flat was mostly moderate tempo, I didn't let it drop too low. The remainder of the climb was half traffic mitigation and moderate to good tempo to the summit. Once at the summit, I took a moments rest. Called home, because I thought I forgot to put the Cyctomax into the mail locker. Turns out that I didn't. I headed downhill to Pelliser. Mostly relaxing, out of the saddle on the risers. When I got to Pelliser, I cruised for a couple miles, getting into an easy tempo, paying attention to form. The wind started to pick up at this point, in my favor. I made it to Boss Hogs in about 1:00 hour. I'm not certain how this stacks up to other rides, but I normally do 1:20 hrs, on a cool day doing the SS loop. The last climb was higher tempo than the previous rides as it was the first half of the ride was opposed to the last half. I burnt a match or two on the climb, by the time I reached the summit. I put in a modest dig over the summit. I recovered on the false flat, looking for places to stop when the GranFondo gets here. From here it was Route 202, OTR and Mariposa. All within my limits with no serious digs. I made my way to the mail locker and swapped out my bottles, filled one with Cytomax powder. Shortly after, I headed to the summit of WTR. Mostly moderate tempo. I cruised the downhill at a leisure pace. After reaching the base, I turned around and headed back up the mountain. I started moderate and then picked up the tempo to good towards the last half. Burning my matches where it counted. I felt good for most of the climb. My left hip was getting sore towards the summit. When I reached the summit, I stopped, stretched my legs, hydrated. I wanted to see what it would take to mitigate the hip soreness. Turns out that stretching, and shaking the legs helped alot. It only took a couple minutes for the soreness to subside. From here, I headed back home. Concentration was good, but I was somewhere in a grey zone, more than "the zone". Somewhat cautious in my focus, trying not to overdo my stay on the roads. Some gremlins here and there, but moderate. Balance and form felt good. I had to adjust the cleat on my right shoe, as it appeared to have moved. Ailments consisted of sore hands, mild lower back soreness, and more notably the left hip. All mitigated by stretching and stopping on the side of the road to relax. Gear is working well. The left shoe continues to be difficult to click out of the pedal. I'll contact Speedplay for their advice. Other notes, I saw some deer crossing the road on OTR, and many cyclists today. Good for the morale.
