Wow! what a great day to get out! Sunny skies. In the low 60's mild winds from the South East. I decided to go to SS today. It was a wait and see decision. The legs felt good to start. I didn't bother checking my time at the end of OTR. I had a few minor blunders today. I forgot to start the GPS till I reached WTR. So, lost about half a mile of metrics. I forgot to put in a new battery on the power meter. So, I had to ride without power metrics. I rode with the GoPro Hero 9 camera for the first time since sending in the first one for an RMA exchange. I think the GoPro camera recorded upside down in one or more of the videos. Will have to check. I had a tailwind going up Banducci. The legs felt good going up the climb. After making it to the summit, I assessed the wind conditions. It reversed. So that was the green light I was looking for to go to SS. After taking a few moments rest, I headed down the mountain. I think the tarmac is a bit more compact. It felt less bumpy. I reached 40+ MPH. The trek through the farmlands was the usual grind. I stopped once to take photos of some horses while they were grazing in the fields. After reaching the backside of SS, I pulled over to take a look at the smartphone. I got about 50 / 1 Mbps. Better than AT&T. The GoPro battery was at 51%. I zipped my way around SS. I forgot to check the time going through the bridge. Shortly after I got back to the farmlands. Somewhere after this point, I realized that I forgot to put in an extra battery for the GoPro. I did the calculations in my head. I figured I'd have just enough to make it home. Turns out that I was right. As I was making my way back on the farmlands, I was assessing my provisions. I knew I had just enough fluids as long as I didn't chug. I decided to feed at the summit of the last climb. I didn't bother checking my time going passed Boss Hogs, but it was likely around 1:25-ish. The last climb went quick. No bio signs, so non-stop climbing. I kept the tempo going over the top. When I reached the summit, I pulled over to feed a Clif Bar. I took a look at the GoPro and it had 18% battery life left. So, about 20 minutes remaining. Again, just enough to get home. After feeding I made my way back to Route 202. They still have the temporary stop light, but minimal traffic as I was descending to OTR. OTR was mostly fun and games. Mariposa was the usual grind. I had some incentive, so the pace was elevated. After reaching the top of Weston, I shut it down. I had about 1% battery life left in the GoPro. So, it lasted close to 2 hours on one battery. Concentration was good. I had a few things to think about, morale felt good. I was eager to get out today. Balance and form was good. I practiced no handed riding to get that square on the saddle and pedal feeling. Definitely helped. Nutrition was good. I fed once when needed. I had sufficient fluids. Gear worked flawless. I need to put an new battery in the power meter. Ailments were minimal. The body behaved real good today. The cool weather helped. Other notes, I saw 3 cyclists descending OTR as I was climbing it.
