Completed over 430 miles in the last week and a half, including this final century to just surpass my 6,000 mile goal (cycling) for the year. 🥳
I thought it was nicely symbolic to climb one of the toughest peaks, on hump day (coincidence - just worked out with the weather), that I’ve haven’t climbed since it’s been repaved, to finish of my goal. Did it literally and figuratively on a high.
Irene had been wanting to do Mt. Umunhum too and it worked that I could do all 100 miles in one go on the one day left this year not forecast to rain. It was a little chilly at times but at least it was sunny.
We had a slight delay this morning as Josh discovered a slow leak and had to switch bikes. In contrast, I think I got a couple punctures on this ride that just sealed themselves (tubeless) without me even realizing and there didn’t seem to be any loss of air. I found the little rubbery plugs and was wondering what they were at first. Tubeless is so great. ❤️
Finding a good ride snack is usually a struggle as most bars tend to be sweet and I’m more about the savory. I don’t know why I never thought of this before. I took the breakfast sausages I normally eat before rides and made a sort of Pig In A Blanket. I buttered and put honey on one side of a couple slices of bread and grilled them (like a grilled cheese). I left the other side ungrilled and plain so I could hold them without getting my fingers messy. Cut the slices of bread in half and rolled a chicken sausage in each. The toasted bread was still crunchy when I had them. Delish! 🤤
I think protein from that and the Super Duper burger for lunch really helped my legs at the end too. They’re feeling pretty good right now. Much less sore than normal.
I'm 0/2 with ride meals (with Irene) as both Highway 1 Brewing Company, and today, Tacos Al Pastor, were both closed even though Google said they were going to be open.
