Haven't done this loop in ages, especially not road. Took advantage of the one sunny day bookended by a days of rain the week before and in the coming week. The rains were heavier than expected and, after a couple good storms, the ground is pretty saturated now. Plenty of closures and landslides throughout the ride. It felt like we were doing a gravel ride. Bob's bike was making all kinds of noises. The old ones were joined by new ones as the rear fender was rubbing. We eventually got the sorted but then shortly after that something happened and his rear derailleur cable came off. Fortunately, he was able to get it back on and mostly shifting okay. There was some poor shifting until I think he finally got it adjusted on the way back after lunch. Dad's Luncheonette is still closed for the holidays so we went back to the place we always used to go - San Benito House. I think we were the first ones there. While having our sandwiches, we found out that Hwy 92 was closed. Because of the closure, there was a lot of traffic coming the other way while we were climbing Tunitas and descending Kings. Not great having to dodge the mud and debris, and rivers of water, as well as the extra traffic. Got stuck behind a car descending Kings. Very frustrating as it was driving erratically, braking hard for no reason and then accelerating away just to do it all over again. The line of cars and cyclists heading up didn't look fun. Spotted Brad in that line near the bottom. We had a bit of a headwind coming back on Canada only to find the Ralston bike path was closed. We had to detour to Bunker Hill - another road we haven't been on in ages.
