Yesterday Josh invited me to ride with him and Irene this morning. I agreed without fully considering what I was agreeing to.
For one, it was early, especially after already waking up early for the Mt. Diablo ride the day before. Also, it was going to be cold. What I didn't anticipate was that it was going to be foggy and that ended up making it feel colder. I experimented with different layering which actually worked out fine.
But the ride south to meet up with them was sunrise directly in my face amplified by being diffused through the fog. It was very bright. Also had to keep wiping the moisture from my glasses.
Along with Josh, his dad, and Irene, Suzanne, Ron, and Luke joined as well. It was a pretty brisk pace.
On the second trip south on Cañada, I was getting hungry. I originally thought I'd get lunch on the way back but it was too early so I did a bakery stop at Emerald Hills to say hi to the owners. I had very tasty and needed ham and cheese croissant and hot chocolate.
It was colder and foggier back in Menlo Park and along Alameda de las Pulgas than any other part of the ride. I thought it would've burned off by the time we got back. It didn't warm up until the last couple miles of my ride when I could finally shed the layers I had experimented with.
Pet peeve time - I HATE people who walk or ride in the middle of the path or road. I don't understand why they can't walk on their one side.
Descending the Ralston Bike Path, this guy was going right down on the line but he was also weaving randomly sometimes so it wasn't really obvious or completely safe to pass on either side of him.
And then along Cañada, all the runners were running towards me in my shoulder/bike lane. I don't run but I've heard they're supposed to run towards traffic but I call BS on that. They have their whole own side. As cyclists we have one safe area but we can't even have that. If we rode the wrong way up the other side we'd get yelled at so badly. We're restricted in where we can ride but they can just take over what little we have and endanger my riding safety as well as their own.
There was a point when two runners where running side-by-side coming towards me, one in my lane and one in the rode. They started to go single file in my lane because a car was coming from behind. Now we're going head on with a car to our side and nowhere to go. It's so ridiculous!
