Great ride, great visit, and just overall great day.
Started the morning with my typical Friday ride down to Scrambled. Invited the legend Joe Ruggles to join me. I rolled up to find that he'd decided to ride over and was already enjoying a seat on the patio. With this morning's beautiful temperatures who am I to refuse a seat at that table? We had a great breakfast, great visit, and great ride along Pecos until he caught the UPRR trail to head home and I went west on Warm Springs towards work. Absolutely stellar way to start the day.
This evening along the way home had a cool moment climbing Soccer Field Hill. As I was riding up the preceding trail I spotted a family of three riding. Coming up on the trailing two, I flicked my bell and they split to allow me through. I started to come upon the youngest on his BMX right as he started climbing Soccer Field Hill. I came up along side him and cheered him on. Stuck with him until the top, told him great job, and rode on. The smile on his face was priceless.
Had another cool moment at the southern end of Cadence. I came up to the intersection with Reunion and this teenager rolled up on his electric scooter and asked if I wanted to race. I just gave him a big laugh and, "Yeah right!".
He smiled and said, "Hey I had a hard time catching up with you. Well have a good night!"
I replied, "Thanks man you too, and be safe!" as I rolled on towards home.
One of the things I love about my commutes, and riding a bike in general, is the brief interactions I have with people I come across on the street. The regular morning walkers are some of the best. There are a couple ladies I see nearly every day along either Jada Dr or Solera Sky Dr. They both started waving after I passed them a couple times and said "Good morning". Not sure if it brightens their day or not, but it certainly brightens mine and I guess that's all that really matters.
