The patter of light rain woke us this morning but thankfully it mainly held off until we had breakfast and packed up. We pulled on our rain gear and headed south towards Miami MB where we thought we might stop for a second breakfast. We didn’t find a restaurant open but we found the Miami Variety Store/bakery/general store/ hardware store/ liquor store etc. one of the coolest little stores I’ve ever seen. With a couple of fresh baked cheese buns and chocolate doughnuts we sat in a pretty little park across the street and enjoyed the baking with our coffee. From Miami we headed South and east on some nice limestone capped roads and even the roadside cuts showed limestone gravel instead of the usual aggregate material. About 3 miles north of Winkler just as we crossed Dead Horse Creek for the third time Lynne glanced back and skidded to a stop pointing at a sign behind us, advertising the Dead Horse Creek Cidery! While we were standing there a car drove out and stopped to chat, it turned out to be the brewmaster who informed us that they were having a special evening tonight with a guest chef preparing some special items to go with the ciders. Once we get set up at the campground in town we are heading back there. Woohoo!
