Today's weather was great. In the 70's with a bit of a breeze. Shorts and Short Sleeves today. Wind from the North. Today I planned on cruising from door step to the bottom of Keene. I made it the top of the descent in modest time. Somewhere around 10 minutes or so. As I made my way down the descent, I passed by the loop monument. There was one car that was going much slower than me. The driver ended up pulling over to the right and let me go. That was just at the part where the road was about to straighten out. I gapped the car on the curvey part, but I thought he was going to pass me on the straight section. When I got to that part, I figured he was no more than 50 yards behind me, and I was prepared to slow down and let them go. When I looked back, the car was about 200 yards back, so I got in the hooks and gave it a little gas, but not hammering. At that point I made it across the straight part and into the undulating curvey part towards the end of the descent. The car, at that point, was 100 yards behind. So I gave it a little push to the next straight passable part. Again, the driver was too far. I figured they were out for a sunday drive, so I went my own pace and they never passed me until I did a U-ee at the bottom of the descent. So, this zapped just a bit of energy from my legs, but not so bad. On the ascent, I ended doing some light intervals with good tempo in the middle. As for ailments, my right hand was numb for over 5 minutes. Shaking it off for a minute here and there kept it from escalating. Other than that, it was just the regular exhaustion from the effort (to be expected). My bike and gear worked perfect. Some clicking here and there from the wheels, I think. Nothing to be concerned about. I am going to get the Shimano PC interface today. I'm anxious to see how it works. Other notations, there were more cows in the fields today than usual. To my surprise, no other cyclists...
Forgot to mention. My concentration was good, but no better than 85%. I had to kick myself in the pants for veering off at times. Balance was good, both in the saddle and out.
