I was able to get out a little earlier than usual today. The weather was great, again! This time the winds from the North. In the 70's. I did good time today. To the top of Banducci, it took less than 38 minutes. And about an hour to the SS tunnel. My legs were good, pretty much the whole way. I did modest tempo on the way out, thinking, what's the point in burring myself going into the wind, when I'll just gain a minute or two. So, on the return trip, I did strong tempo. As soon as I turned left on Pelliser, I started to lift the pace. And when I reached Giraudo, I was hammering. I kept that pace till the last climb, which I started modest and ended with a good dig over the top. I thought I was on par for a 1:55 ride, but I misjudged how much ground I was actually covering. More than I anticipated. After going over the top of Cummings Valley, I shut it down for about 20-30 seconds, and then dropped the hammer again till I reached 202. 202 was the usual, cautious through the traffic. Going into Old Town Road, I gassed it pretty hard, still keeping that hammer down. When I realized I was good for a sub 1:50, I just focused on keeping the RPMS high and strong. Ailments, Mostly none. There was a strange soreness in my right lower back. It wasn't an overwhelming kind of pain, but a pain in a small area, about the size of a marble. Almost as if someone was pushing it into my back. But that went away just as soon as it appeared. The only other ailment was my right hand numbness. It wasn't as bad as the previous Keene ride. Shaking it off did the trick. My concentration was good, shady in some spots, but no real lapses in focus. Balance was good, I felt perfectly centered and both legs firing on all cylinders. Gear is working great, I really like the Di2 firmware upgrade. The double shifting is proving to be a real handy asset. I'm using it all the time now. I'm going to return the GPS for an exchange nextd month. Hopefully this will fix the lower battery capacity problem. Other notes... The house next to the Bright Lake entrance looks like they had newly hatched ducks. I counted about 4 of them. There were sheep grazing near the exit of SS Rd. Never seen them there before. I got it on GoPro.
I wanted to add something as per Ailments. My right thumb has a soreness right below the first joint, on the palm side. If I press it, it feels like I'm pinching a nerve. It has been feeling this way for a week now. I hope it goes away soon. I don't think there is a remedy for it, other than waiting it out.
