Went to visit my cousin, who lives in Bellevue — specifically, on Highland Dr, which would mean finishing with a long 10% climb. I got so close, but decided to call to ask for a pick-up to skip the last mile. Not only was I tired, sleepy, hungry, and carrying a heavy load — I also didn't want to delay everyone's dinner just so that I could tough it out and finish the route. The border crossing went super smoothly. Even though, at 8 am, US-bound cars were queued up all the way beyond the Canadian immigration building, I got to cut in front of all the cars. As a result, my total waiting time was under a minute! As soon as a passed the border, though, I found that all the US flags were pointed the "wrong" way, i.e. indicating a headwind. I was actually grateful for the wind, though, because in the few places that were fully sheltered, I immediately noticed how much hotter it felt.
