Well, the rain held off long enough last night for us to get everything nicely dried out. And then by 8:00 pm it was raining again! 😳 it rained on and off most of the night, finally letting up around 6:00 am. At least no rain had worked it’s way under the tent so it was only the fly that was wet on the outside and on the inside from condensation. We climbed out to meet a fresh crop of black flies that were looking for breakfast as much as we were. We headed east on Highway 28 hoping to pick up the Strongs/Brimley trail which from the information sounded like it should be quite rideable. Just short of Clarke where we would connect with the trail we came upon another roadside bakery, this time the Triple J Bakery. A cup of coffee and a huge cookie each later we found the trail, it appeared to be a bit loose but with last night’s rain we thought it might be rideable. After struggling for a couple of miles we bailed back to the highway, unless a trail is designated No Motorized Traffic it’s just not worth trying to ride in this part of the country. Everything is so loose and sandy. A couple of small side paved roads brought us to Brimley State Park, another of the beautiful and inexpensive parks that we have enjoyed in our trip through the US.
