It was nice to have been of assistance to a fellow rider in need. I was finishing up the last segment of this 30-mile ride, about to approach the final bridge, when I happened upon a young lady on the grass with an apparent rear flat. I stopped to see if I could help out in any way. Turns out that her pump had failed and she needed some air. After expertly removing the rear wheel and the tire with a SINGLE TIRE IRON, she proceeded to replace the damaged tube. All the while, I was trying to figure out how to use my pump, not having had need of it in quite some time. Eventually, I was able to get it working, mounted a CO2 cartridge, and filled her tire. Unfortunately, the bead had not seated properly near the valve stem, so we had to deflate the tire, re-seat the bead, and then manually inflate the tire. Surprisingly, it was not too much effort to get the tire back to a usable inflation. I offered to follow her back to the Cedar Creek lot, and she thanked for that. We returned without further incident, concluding a rather satisfying ride. Under cloudless skies, with low humidity and temps in the lower eighties, the only challenge was the rather stiff SW wind of 10-15 on the return leg from Gilgo. I wanted to make this a 40-mile ride, but the winds were too much of a bother to allow much of a motivation boost to continue further east.
