As the accompanying pics will show, the westernmost, upper-level bands of the once mighty Cat 5 Hurricane Lee obscured a good 70% of the sky as it passed east of Long Island, continuing to appprach its eventual landfall in easternmost Maine or Nova Scotia. Its path was shunted eastward by a potent Canadian airmass that has, at long last, pushed out the horribly humid air that has blanketed the Eastern Seaboard for most of the summer. Today’s dewpoints in the forties, temps in the upper sixties, and manageable NNE winds of 10-15 were a welcome departure from the awful weather preceding it. The ride went really well. I felt really strong and was able to maintain some decent speed into the wind on the path. Once again, I am grateful to have returned home without incident!
