Today's story was all about the weather. The temperature is climbing as we near the summer. It was over 85 degrees out the door and got hotter as the ride progressed. The real kicker was the wind. There was very little wind in the beginning of the ride. Mostly from the north. When I got to the summit of Banducci, the wind was prevailing from the usual westerly direction. I did good time on the way out. well under an hour to the top of SS and about 1:02 hours on the exit of SS. I thought I was going to do a sub 1:50, but the weather proved to be uncooperative. I had a nice tailwind until I reached the last climb of the day. About half way up it, the wind did a reversal and stayed that way till I reached the end of Old Town Road. Usually when the wind does this, I get a tailwind on Woodford-Tehachapi going north. Not to be the case, it was a head-wind. And going up the last kicker on Weston was also a headwind. I had just enough water to get me home, I had to ration my provisions. Next time, I'm going to pick up some drinks at SS. Today was a close call, I almost ran into dehydration. Ailments. Nothing really on the way out. Some numbness in the hands. The way back, I had some soreness in the back, and the left hip. I attribute this to be by enlarge the heat. No calf muscle aching. My concentration was good for most of the ride. Leg Balance was also good. My gear held up. Looks like my Gopro was able to take today's heat. The pace that I set on the way out was moderate tempo. I picked up the pace a little on the return trip until the winds reversed direction. After that point, I shut it down and just cruised home.
