I wasn't feeling great but missed yesterday's ride so I decided to do an easy ride today, I thought for a moment to go real short too, LOL! I finally was dressed perfect for the temps. There's a section on this ride that I really don't like and it seems to be a safe section but it is deceivingly dangerous. I have mentioned it a part of it but not this part. It is on Rte. 70 heading south 5 miles from Whiting, there's a left hand turn to Browns Mills onto Lakehurst Rd (Rte 530). The danger is the turn is not really a turn the kinda forks so the traffic does not need to slow down, they continue at highway speed! The issue any cyclist going straight is at the mercy of upcoming cars. Had I not looked back at the last second I would have been road kill, one car went straight but the car behind turned and I was already in the kill zone! To avoid getting hit I had to turn too, I can see a cyclist getting hit trying to make thru... Not only do you need to worry about traffic coming from behind the cars that are stopped to get onto Rte 70 rarely yield for cyclist especially, if there is a break in on coming traffic. Once you get past this section you then need to battle with the shoulder filled with deep sand all the way to the rumble strip, for about 20-30 yards. Today, because of traffic I was forced to go thru it, and by the skin of my teeth made it thru as the bike drifted towards traffic then away almost completely off the shoulder...
The rest of the ride was smooth sailing until I ran something over and got a flat! At first, it felt like both tires were going flat. The funny thing I was going make a pit stop at the same place I had to pull over. The stop was longer than I was hoping which caused me to get cold as all the heated sweat was very warm, now it wasn't... Once I got rolling I warmed back up I had 7 miles to go. What an adventure this ride was, onward to the next Grand Adventure! Be safe out there, Enjoy Your Ride...
