D'Emonda. Partly sunny, cold - 28 at the start up to 32 by the finish with wind chill in the mid 20's, variable winds, thankfully mild @4-5 mph. The temperature changed 3-4 degrees depending on when the sun was out, which was only about 1/3 of the time. Wind direction varied over the whole ride, Northerly up to Hampshire then when I headed West on Allen it had shifted to NW, a bit later from the West and for the last 1/2 hour from the SW, so always somewhat in the face.
All in all a pretty day, while cold I stayed pretty warm except the usual cold toes and fingers. A blessing having a low wind day for a change and even a bit of sun was welcome. I didn't see a single other cyclist and overall very low traffic
Good steady pace with the constant cross/headwinds. I averaged 15.8 mph for the first 25 miles, then picked it up to 16.6 mph for the second 25 for an overall average of 16.2 mph. I'm happy with that pace considering the extra 10 lbs of gear, the movement restrictions from the clothes and cold temps effect on the muscles and air density.
Dressed well for the conditions: Heavy Minus 33 LS merino base layer, Forclaz merino SS tee, Bontrager jacket with pit zips open, lighter Rapha bib tights with a jock, 2 layers of wool socks and 3 toe warmers on each foot, Bontrager Jack Frost Winter boots, 2 layers of merino base gloves, light DeMarchi wind shells, Toko lobster claw outers, light gater, poly ear band.
