THANK YOU for keeping my Breaking Away plan secret. I started out hard from mile 0 but still thought I would be caught by mile 50. The 1st SAG was at mile 32 and I was leader on the road. Lunch was at mile 69 and I surprisingly I was still leader on the road. But a glich to my break away plan....because the support company does not like the rider to be too far apart....they held my departure from lunch for 15 minutes. By the time I left lunch, the fast rider peleton was also eating lunch, but I had about a 10 minutes start on them. For the first 70 miles there was a steady headwind from around the 2:30 direction....not terrible but annoying. However, at mile 70, we made a 90 degree left turn and had a perfect tail wind and so I was able to average 25-30 in this section. I was starting to think I could make it all the way without being caught. But like so often happens in the Tour de France, the break away rider is eventually caught by the peleton....and I was caught at mile 98. I rode with the leaders for another 10 miles before I got dropped at mile 108...with 21 miles to go to the finish line. I continued riding as best I could and at the finish line (hotel), three riders finished ahead of me and two others rode in with me. So I am claiming a 3-way tie for 4th place....and a complete success for my Break Away this Sunday, May 7, 2017...while you all where reading the Sunday paper! And, last of all, a new personal record for me. I completed the 129 mile ride with and average speed of 18.8 mph! I'm very satisfied...and hope I don't have too big of a payback tomorrow. Finally, thank you again for keeping my attach plan secret...I'll let you know when I go for it again!!!
