06-07-2017 Ride Journal Entry
Today’s weather was warm and pleasant, in the low 80’s, favorable wind. I decided to adjust my cleats before the ride. With the intention to remedy the problem with the loose nut on the center of the shoe. I ended up putting a small piece of electric tape. Sort of squished in there. It seemed to do the trick. Suffice it to say, I had no issues. I felt average going out. It took a while to get warmed up. I made it to the end of OTR in average time. Banducci felt good. I was able to hold a solid tempo all the way to the top. I practiced my tuck on the descent on more than one occasion. Reaching 40MPH+. That was a treat and welcome reprieve. I cruised it out to SS, doing moderate tempo. I slowed the pace down once I reached the entrance to SS, then climbed the back entry doing no less than moderate tempo. I zipped through SS and headed back just as quick. I didn’t have a perfect tailwind, so the tempo was steady without any major deviation in speed. The last climb went fast. I pushed hard over the first riser and held a good tempo to the summit. From there it was recovery, down Route 202. I pushed hard to OTR, reaching 37MPH+ before the left hand turn. The remainder was mostly fun and games. My concentration felt good. No gremlins, in the zone. Balance and form felt good. Ailments consisted of right hand numbness, some lower back soreness and left upper quad soreness. Gear is working well. When I adjusted the cleats today, I noticed that the right cleat was further forward than the other shoe. I adjusted them to be equal. I had no problems today, but I need to try the new position for a few rides. Other notes, I passed 1 cyclist today.
