Today's heat was the theme of the day. I got up about 1 hour earlier than usual, 7AM-ish. I knew it was going to be a scorcher. By the time I got out, around 11AM, the temperature was already in the upper 80's/90's. After about 1/4 mile, realized that it was going to be a slow ride. I was crawling my way up OTR. By the time I reached Route 202, I was up for climbing Banudcci. The wall was just punishment. After reaching the summit, the weather was noticeably cooler. Likely due to the altitude. I was still undecided in doing the SS loop. Somewhere between the summit and the base of the mountain, I decided to do the loop. The downhill was a treat, reaching about 42MPH. The heat caused the air to be less dense and less wind resistance, hence the high max speed today. The temperature was noticeably cooler on the SS side of the mountain. I cruised my way to SS. I reached the bridge in about 1:06 hrs. From that point, I didn't care about my time. I just wanted to get back in one piece. The return trip wasn't too bad. I continued to feel the fatigue from the heat, but I manged to stay cool in the head. The last climb came and went. The base was hottest. I think the temperature at the summit was warmer. From here it was fun and games. Very little traffic to negotiate today. Concentration felt good. I was in the zone, no gremlins. Balance and form was good. Ailments consisted of right hand numbness, quad soreness, right calf soreness, general sensation of heat exhaustion. Gear is working good. I noticed that the GoPro was tunred off, somewhere in the middle of the ride. Upon discovering this, I turned the camera on and commenced the recording session. Other notes, I saw about 2 or 3 runners today.
