Dummy GPS track because no file supplied with ride story or photos but what do they care the webmaster will bodge something together. So the webmaster gets his own back by changing the ride title to something mildly smutty.
My ride. Followers are: Alan B, Alan P, John Mac, Cliff J, Lilo B, Jim S, Phil H, John H, and Graham O.
We set off along the Oxford Road to Denham Roundabout. Since my last visit, a concrete barrier has appeared at the beginning of Willets Lane, adjacent to the M40 access ramp. With much heaving, we manage to get all the bikes over. We proceed to Tatling End, then go through the middle of Gerrards Cross, to our elevenses stop at Beaconsfield Services. John Hare leaves us for pastures new and Phil throws in the towel as well.
Afterwards we head northwards to Knotty Green. At the top of a long hill, I realise that Lilo and Jim are not with us. I'm also off course, but I don't think that's the reason we are missing two. A quick call to Lilo reveals that she headed towards Penn Bottom and thinks that Jim went the same way.Unfortunately we can't contact Jim, he's probably halfway to the pub anyway. Lilo is heading back (commitments at home). The now six of us head for Great Kingshill. Judging by the odd rumbling tummy, I get the impression that my preferred convoluted route to Bryants Bottom will not be appreciated, so I pick a more direct one, with the help of my trusty Garmin. We arrive at "The Gate" and someone spots Jim's bike, but no Jim. After a search I manage to find him, hiding in the carvery. The Gate is one of an increasing number of pubs that don't do sandwiches on a Sunday. I make do with a couple of bags of peanuts instead
We start the return journey the way we came, but go through Penn Wood, a bit of a challenge with plenty of mud and puddles to negotiate. At Winchmore Hill we head for Chalfont St Giles. John Mac departs near St Peter, and the rest of us stop at Jungs, Gerrards Cross for afternoon refreshments. Cliff doesn't stop, heading for Denham Church, we think.
At leaving time, Alan B heads for Harefield and the remaining four of us decide to call in at Denham Church. The W.I. cafe is certainly well attended, but we can't see any familiar faces. Uxbridge marks our dispersal point on what has been a rather glorious day.
