On another fine summers day - when will it end? thirteen of us gathered at Wembley Park Station. Lawrie led us along quiet ways past Chalk Hill Park, officially opened in June, to The Welsh Harp Open Space. The path was through meadow and woodland with glimpses of Brent Reservoir as we cycled through. Leaving the park we headed to West Hendon Broadway which was soon crossed into Park Road which led us across the Railway and MI Motorway to the A41 Hendon Way which was crossed on by a subway. Onward we soon found ourselves entering Hendon Park. Exiting the park and crossing a road we were on West View, cycle and footpath leading to Church Road close to Middlesex University. A short way on we found ourselves entering Sunny Hill Park with fine views towards Stanmore and Watford. Leaving the park we crossed the busy A1 Great North Road on a footbridge and into Cophall Park, home to Saracens RFC. After Stuart had paid homage it was but a short trip to elevenses at Metro Piazza a coffee shop within the Metro Golf Centre.
Margaret left us after the break and Lawrie led us across Cophall Common and Chase Lodge Playing Field onto Bunn’s Lane under the A1, M1, and Railway to enter Woodcroft Park then past some very modern flats as we skirted Grahame Park en route to Montrose Playing Fields and Silk Stream Park. Leaving the tranquility of the park we headed through Burnt Oak eventually reaching Prince Edwards Playing Fields where we cycled past The Hive, home to Barnet FC. Immediately after leaving he playing fields we entered Canons Park which after leaving we were back on road past Stanmore Golf Club to Lunch at The Duck in the Pond PH. Somewhere before Canon’s Park we managed to lose Steve but it is reported that he areived home safely!
Leaving pub Michael left us for home and Lawrie led us on past Headstone Lane Station and onto a track which led us across Pinner Park Farm and up into Pinner, past the church, down the High Street, under the railway and into Pinner Memorial Park. Leaving the park we headed to Cuckoo Hill then on down Eastcote High Road to Fore Street where we turned onto a path beside the River Pinn leading into Evelyn Avenue and on to a tea stop at The Cow Byre.
After tea the group dispersed. A fine day’s cycling where I lost count of how many off road open spaces we were led through.
