Today was the double. I got out a little bit later than I had anticipated. In such, the weather was a bit warm. I did the usual preparations for this ride. Namely the provisions. My legs felt ok, but a little on the heavy side when I got out the door. I did real easy tempo warming up to the top of the Keene Descent. I made it to Keene in about average time. The return trip was calm and calculated. Always thinking of what is to come in the next 2 hours. The weather was warm, but it wasn't too much of a concern at this point. The miles seemed to tick over really quick. Before I knew it, I was over the Loop Monument. I didn't do any heroics today. Just steady tempo the whole way up. When possible, I did some stretches. and took on as much fluids as possible. I made it to the Summit without any ailments. At that time, I took on as much fluids as I could handle and ate a full power bar. I then cruised, and recovered from the effort, to the mailbox. It was a quick pit stop, exchanging bottles and taking on some food that I had left in there. Shortly after, I commenced the last 2/3rds of the ride. I was well warmed up. My legs were a little fatigued, to be expected at this point. I did modest tempo, allowing for the toxins to work their way out of my body. OTR went by in a blink of an eye an I made it to the Banducci wall with good legs. I did good tempo up the Banducci wall, as well as the remainder of the ascent. At the summit, I ate part of a power bar. I switched out the SD Card and Battery from my Gopro, and commenced the remainder of the ride. At this point, I had a headwind. I did average tempo, keeping my legs as fresh as possible and continuing stretches as much as possible. When I reached the top of SS, I at the rest of the power bar and 1 of the fig bars. I was good on fluids. From this point on, I was relieved, knowing that I would have a tail wind most of the way home. I started the return trip (right on banducci, exiting SS) modest, all the way to Pelisser. I picked up the pace just a bit, taking advantage of the tailwind. I reached Boss Hogs in good time, and my legs felt a bit fatigued, but still responsive. The last climb wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be. The last time I did the Tour de Teh ride, I hit a headwind for a good part of this last climb. Today proved to be otherwise. I had mostly tailwinds, UNTIL I hit the last kicker over the top of the summit. As soon as I made that right bend, the wind just hit me, and I dumped all my speed in just a few yards. I had to put it in my granny gear and just stomp my way up that little kicker. From there on was mostly a treat. Almost always a tailwind or downhill. My legs were fatigued, but I still had quite a bit left to get me home in good time. Ailments.... almost none. Today was a fantastic day in regards to ailments. No cramping of any type. I give credit to my stretching periodically through out the ride. My concentration was good and my Balance followed. Although, my balance wasn't great, especially when my legs began to fatigue, as is the tendency on rides like this. Other notes. The mini farm had some animals today. I saw ducks, a dog, a goat, and some chickens. As I was going to make the left turn onto Woodford-Teh, there was this dog that bolted out of no-where, on the left side of the road and he chased me for at least a good 50-100 yards! I had enough speed at that point, so no concern for my safety. More a concern for his, being in the middle of the road.
