The forecast was for rain and it didn’t disappoint. Of the 26 Loiterers gathered at Uxbridge with the choice of three rides Margaret, Ivy, Bernard, Steve C, Steve T, and myself elected to follow Brian on the medium ride. We left Uxbridge across the common and through the streets of Ickenham to West Ruislip. Brian the led us through the streets of Ruislip too numerous to name to elevenses at Kings Cafe at Kings College Playing Fields, Ruislip. On the way Brian led us on a small diversion to view the former home of The Krogers, famous in the 1960’s for being part of the Portland Spy Ring. At the cafe we were joined by John M who was to cycle with us and Les who came by car, good move as the rain seemed to have got a bit heavier.
After refreshments Ivy and Bernard left us and Brian led us through Northwood Hills and round the back of Northwood to Moor Park. Exiting the Moor Park Estate we headed along Moor Lane to join the Edbury Way which was followed into Rickmansworth and lunch at The Coach and Horses on the High Street. David M joined us for lunch.
After lunch we said goodbye to David and retraced our way back to the Edbury Way and continued to join the canal at Batchworth Lock. After a short ride along the towpath we turned off to cycle round Batchworth Lake and along the River Colne to emerge on the Uxbridge Road at Mill End. Following the road and pathway/cycleway though Maple Cross to West Hyde and on towards Coppermill Lock. Just short of the lock we said goodbye to Margaret, Steve, and Steve then Brian , John, and I made our way across the causeway at Pynesfield Lake making our way to Tilehouse Lane and tea at The Crew Room, Denham Aerodrome.
Leaving the aerodrome we made for Denham Green where we bid Brian a fond farewell the made our way through Denham and across the golf course to Uxbridge and home.
In spite of the rain which eased over the course of the afternoon it was an enjoyable ride.
