With temps in the low nineties, a dewpoint of 73, and blazing sunshine, this was a day perhaps better spent indoors! The stiff southerlies of 10-15, while a challenge to head into, at least provided some much needed cooling. All in all, not so murderously hot on the bike. On the other hand, Gina opted to run and only made it a couple of miles, so brutal were the conditions! This summer has been a mixed bag of blessings and misfortune. Blessed are Gina and I in that Liah's doing really well and has been a much bigger part of our lives. Kaylee's settling into life on Roosevelt Island and has been given a promotion in her development department along with a raise in salary. Aside from my annoying peroneal tendinopathy, my health has been good as has Gina's. Unfortunately, Gina's work situation remains undecided, she having been placed on Administrative leave for three weeks as of today. Granted, she's still getting paid, but having made some procedural errors that broke the blasted NYP bylaws, she could conceivably lose her job. She's yet another sad victim of our corporatized civilization where one's many achievements can quickly be forgotten when a political vendetta is being undertaken or inept administrators attempt to cover the gross, criminal malfeasance that had previously occurred on their watch. Poor Gina's been an emotional wreck for many days now with no end in sight. Not a great way to end an otherwise brilliant career helping bring quality health care to the underserved if it all comes to that.
