With the day starting out rainy and dreary, it did not look like a bike ride would be in the offing. Threatening radars and forecasts promising midday showers added to the waxing pessimism. Then, as if by magic, the radars dissipated and the forecasts became decidedly more upbeat. We decided to do the Dry Brook ride.
As we pulled off Route 28 onto Dry Brook Road, we immediately noticed a sign warning of loose gravel. Apparently, the road had recently been oiled.
We drove a couple of miles up the road and unfortunately encountered increasingly rough conditions. Stopping to take a closer look, we found unacceptable surfaces, strewn with loose stones, making for decidedly treacherous cycling.
The only other option was to head over to the Pepacton Reservoir and try that. To ease the strain on Kaylee, we drove four miles toward the Shavertown Bridge and set up, all the while eying increasingly threatening skies.
As luck had it, we completed the ride without incident, enjoying temps in the low seventies and southerlies of 5-10.
Kaylee tried some lower gears today compared to yesterday's grind-fest. The higher cadence seemed less arduous for her.
I had a blast and was delightfully surprised to have made it back to the condo without encountering a drop of rain!
