Getting closer and closer to needing lights on these evening rides. Started around 5:30 and finished by 7:30 or 7:45 and it was dark shortly after that. Rode the Schaeffer Farms trail system -- once up on a time it was the ONLY place for MTBs in the county -- for the first time in quite awhile. We thought about doing the trail through the crops twice -- this year it's soybeans -- but decided to instead dodge the section of trail from the northwestern edge of the yelllow trail to Schaeffer Road. We instead rode the dirt road from the cell tower to the paved Schaeffer Road and picked up the red trail where it crosses. The avoided section is certainly rideable but not particularly enjoyable. We had also forgotten that at Schaeffer you DO NOT look off into the woods and admire the terrain; nope, your eyes better be on that 20 feet of trail ahead of you with rocks, roots, holes, all sorts of things to steer around or climb over. Body felt really good; plenty of power for climbs; cardio is good and was not destroyed at the end.
