The plan was to NOT ride MTB, to NOT ride roadie and instead ride the urban cruiser on some paved trails and neighborhood roads. Oh and maybe some dirt here and there.
Well that got a little outta hand. Not even a mile in, there was crashing through the woods looking for an apparently imaginary trail on the other side of a creek. (Use the RWGPS Cycle map to see). The GPS did not catch all the wandering thru the underbrush dragging the bike looking for the trail to Shady Spring Drive. {Shrug}
It was a sign of things to come. The GPS map at low speeds in neighborhoods, as it turns out, is not 100% accurate as to when it's time to turn on unnamed trails and is not particularly easy to read when it decides you need a wider view ... Mile 5.9, for instance... or 6.1 ... or 6.6 ... or 7.0 ... or 7.1 , 7.6, 7.8 and twice at 8.1... SMH.
{Narrator : it does in fact look different on the ground than on a map, especially when paved trails HAVE NO NAMES }
Poached a half-mile of faint dirt trail at 12.2 to get from one 'hood to another. The LHT with 50psi in the tires and a rigid fork was a little dicey in the woods but proved it could be done on non-technical trails.
Despite all that, plenty of paved, non-traffic trails that could be a good wintertime ride when it's too wet to be in the woods and too cold to be out in the open on the road. Gonna need to do this again, with some additional exploration ...
Great choice and not a "regular" route or one that required driving to. Legs got a decent workout; contact points say nothing at all happened (yaay).
