Fantastic early fall day, so chose to do the Six Covered Bridges route. Start at Riverfront Park in Stayton, home of the Jordan Covered Bridge. The first 10.8 miles goes through Kingston and Jordan to the Hannah Covered Bridge. About 1/3 of the total climbing for the route occurs in the first 6 miles. Next, it's on to the Shimanek Covered Bridge at mile 15.1. Decided not to stop at that one. The Larwood Wayside and covered bridge were the first real rest stop (mile 23). Early fall pictures of these bridges are more photogenic than the summer photos. Beautiful farm country in the lowest Cascade foothills. Next up was Hoffman Covered Bridge crossing Crabtree Creek at mile 33.5. A few rollers on Hungry Hill Rd to HIghway 226, then a short climb on 226. Nice descent into the outskirts of Scio. Made a short loop in Scio to catch the bike path and covered bridge over Thomas Creek. The final bridge was Gilkey, at mile 43. Dealt with a short, steep hill on Miller Cemetary Rd then cruised to Stayton-Scio Rd. The final few miles were on River Drive, avoiding busier Stayton-Scio Rd. Low clouds finally dissipated about 2/3 of the way into the ride.
