Warren & I enjoyed another fantastic day of snowshoeing going up to the top of Mt Kit Carson from the Blanchard side. The entire trip to the summit was off-trail and great fun! The weather conditions were near perfect for our trek today, sunny and virtually no wind. This trip started in what we refer to as the "lowlands" and then gained elevation quite rapidly on the trip up. We encountered some heavy brush that was a little difficult to penetrate but we made it through and the snow was melting making it a little wet & heavy but certainly nothing to complain about. This trip will test your fitness level so be prepared for that. Approximately half way up you'll come across Mt Kit Carson Loop Rd that provides an alternate path for travel if the going gets to be a bit too much. We went across the road and straight up which, if able to make it, is very worthwhile. For the trip down, we hit trail #140 down to Smith Gap then followed the old Day Mt Spokane road back to our vehicle. The scenery was amazing as always and I'm looking forward to making this trip again.
