My two daughters, (Christiina & Kristin), and I enjoyed a day together on snowshoes at Mt Spokane State Park. In both the girls case, it was their first snowshoe trek ever and I must say they were real troopers! The weather was quite warm even in the higher elevations, (above 4500 ft.), with both the rain and wind melting snow above 5000 ft. As such, the snow was quite wet and heavy but never-the-less, we all enjoyed the day outdoors. We started our journey up trail 130. At Bald Mtn Campground we met a fairly large group of high school science students supposedly measuring snow depth, water content etc. however, that's not exactly how I would have described it. I believe the smile on the large snowman they built better represents their efforts. Anyway, we hydrated a bit prior to continuing on trail 130 to the CCC Cabin. Upon arrival we had the place to ourselves and enjoyed a great lunch discussing the first leg of our journey. After lunch we headed out and decided to do a little off-trail trekking for our return which is really the essence of snowshoeing. The side hill effort tends to put a little pressure on the hips of those new to this sport but the girls never complained. The scenery seems to change with each trip and this time we watched the clouds pass through the trees right in front of us. Breathtaking really! We arrived safely back at the Selkirk snowmobile parking lot which was solid ice. In fact, Christiina took a little spill about 30 ft. from the vehicle in starting off this morning. When we climbed back in the car, and as soon as the tires began to turn, our "side slide" journey to near bottom of the lot began. Quite a different perspective but we all had a good laugh! On the way down the girls & I stopped at Bear Creek Lodge to a warm welcome and enjoyed a glass of hard cider and nachos...very good I might add! In summary; great girls, great day, great fun! I have little doubt we'll be back at it again soon. Enjoy the photos!
