Warren and I had another epic snowshoe adventure today in some new territory which is always great fun! We began and ended our journey at the Selkirk Lodge snowmobile parking lot. We were the first to lay snowshoe prints throughout our entire trek since the last major snow fall. Last week when the snow did come the ambient temperature was quite cold and the snow was deep but very light. The warming trend over the past two days has changed snow conditions considerably. Today the snow, while still deep, was very wet and quite heavy. As such, the trip was not only routed over beautiful landscape it was also a real workout! (NOTE - a word of caution to those venturing into off-trail terrain in deep, wet & heavy snow conditions; be prepared for certain and be truthful with yourself with respect to your physical capabilities. The last place you want to find yourself is at the bottom of a deep ravine or drainage only too exhausted to get back out. Remember, rescue at best is hours away.)
Snowshoeing has become one of my favorite winter outdoor activities. There's a real inner peace that comes in the quiet solitude of remote forest in winter. If you've not experienced it I highly recommend giving it a try! There's something fresh and new with every trip.
(NOTES - a) disregard the "moving" and "stopped" times, speeds and pace as they are inaccurate due to a non-programmable parameter in my tracking device. b) this link is interactive so play a bit. c) the photos can be found in the right hand column under the "Overview" tab. Scroll down a little from this blurb and you should see them. If you click in the center of the photo a larger format will appear on your screen with the left/right scroll arrows.)

Estimated Time shows a prediction of how long it would take you to ride a given route. This number is based on your recent riding history, and represents an estimate of moving time.
