Well, today was an unusual day. It was cloudy in the neighborhood but was foggy when I got to the end of OTR. At first glance it looked like it was going to be real cold, but turned out to be humid and warmer that expected. I wore 2 base layers, arms and knees. I brought along my cap, but didn't use it. Out the door, my legs felt a bit heavy, but most of that was due to the unusual wind conditions. Being high and turbulent. By the time I reached OTR it became apparent that I was going to have a strong tail wind on the way out. The visibility on Highline was ok. Although foggy, you could still see about 300 yards in front, in the worse case scenario. The greater problem was keeping track of what was on the ground. Since there wasn't any sunlight, it was hard to spot the pebbles and debris that was on the road. Fortunately, I stayed out of trouble and made it out and back with no punctures or anything of that sort. As I created the first 1 on highline, and started the short downhill. I noticed that I was hitting 40+ mph. I could have pushed it further, but I was more concerned about the traffic as I was having to negotiate around the dirt on the road. As I approached the lesser grades, I noticed that I was holding high tempo with some room to grow. About half way on the outbound, I felt good and decided to push to high tempo for as long as I could. Bodily ailments were minimal, so that gave me the green light. The only ailments were the burning thighs from the effort being put down. My inner thighs were especially sore. They were chafing a bit on the saddle. But not so much as to become a hindrance. My concentration was spot on, focusing on the tempo, surroundings, and focus in general. Balance was good, but could have been better. When I reached the turn-around point, I was spent. I put it on modest cruise control for the remainder of the return trip. Until I reached OTR, then I was able to lift the tempo up a bit. Gear is working good, although I noticed that my chain skipped a link on more that one occasion. Other notes, I didn't expect this ride to be as good as it was, given the weather conditions. It ended up being one of my better rides on the out-bound leg.
