Emonda. Mostly Cloudy, cool but very comfortable, fairly brisk ENE/NNE wind. 2nd longest ride of the week. All 3 Daves set out together from MP, late start. Dave Frable split off at mile 18 taking the direct route to Platteville for lunch and then headed back to MP. Dave Struck and I continued to Lancaster for a water break at the Blue Boy Bakery. Beautiful countryside with a few tough and long climbs, but mostly a ridge ride with lots of great rollers on nice roads, valley descents and ascents and a tailwind the whole way. Lancaster to Platteville was a little tougher with head/cross winds and terrain shifting over to lots of rollers and long but not too steep climbs.
Took a welcome lunch stop at a Mexican restaurant in downtown Platteville. Our planned stop at the Owl Cafe didn't happen as they closed at 1pm. More of the same terrain after lunch but with more of a head wind. Dave and I traded pulls when we could but difficult to do on the climbs. Last 5 miles into Mineral Point was almost all uphill. We finished about a half hour after Frable. Some of the most secluded roads I've ever ridden on, hardly saw any cars or people but lots of grass fed dairy cows and cattle. Partly cloudy skies gave way to sunshine at both town stops.
Long day in the saddle at over 5 hours and nearly 75 miles. Felt very strong and the bike performed flawlessly after a thorough cleaning and derailleur adjustment on Thursday, our only rain out day. Turned out to be a good and needed rest day. This route is a keeper and the first time I've ridden this far West in Southern Wisconsin. TSS: 268, IF: 73. Hit 45.9 mph on one particularly rough road descent.
