Rolled out at 630am and arrived at Yorba Regional Park 26 miles out in 1 1/2 hrs including stop lights across Riverside and Corona. That’s a half hour faster than my previous fastest trike based beach ride. Arrived at ARTIC Bus Depot half hour later at mile 36. Pacific Coast Highway at 10am.
No one interested in the heat so rode solo…
Took the coastal bike trails until I had to get on PCH up by Seal Beach. Only a few miles on PCH then back streets to Long Beach bike trail pret much.
Gorgeous scenery and very few people since beach people freak out over any increase in temperature above seasonal norms. I caught and dropped every roadie between Yorba Regional and the coast.
Water and mango 🥭 juice and on the way back added in sugar crystals about the size of a pea about 5-8 at a time on the tongue. Instant power back on! The heat made it tricky to keep enough calories vs water in.
Went to the Queen Mary and almost to the gigantic Carnival Firenze Cruise ship in for renovations next to the Queen Mary.
Stopped at Amazonia Bowl in Huntington Beach for a couple of Dragon 🐉 Blood 🩸 Smoothies… All I can tell you about them is they make you generate power like King Kong!
I couldn’t believe how easy it was to roll a big gear once back on the Santa Ana River Trail!
By the time I hit a hundred miles, and the heat began to really climb and having a slight tail wind, over heating kept creeping in. I had to find a few liquor stores and a 7-11 to buy cold bottled water to bring down core temperature. One of the clues for me of going critical mass - melt down is hot feet and lost of power.
So I drank most of the water and brought along one of my desert ultra running hats with flaps and folded the flaps as extra layers over the top of my head then soaked the hat. Huge decrease in brain 🧠 and core temperature in seconds.
I think my Gear 360 camera either lost power or died somewhere on the way back home. I’ll check that out in a bit.
