Cycling is oft-times an amalgam of honoring established and intended route (listening for the "by the book" cues from Siri) and making executive decisions to "improvise" with the route one's on... Today, an intended 27-miler became a 21-miler with the boomerang back on Cochran and south on 1st to locate Royal again and, therefore my car parked at Sycamore Park south of where I picked up template route constructed by fellow RwGPS cartologist. All this because I started with a Smarty Pants Phone at 53% that whittled itself down to 20% on Cochran (was that due the incoming messages along with the navigation?). Anyway, hoofed it on back to initial starting point instead of the add-on 6 miles. A shout out to the kid working the counter at Bike Nerd on Los Angeles Avenue (next to Jerry's Coffee Shop) who allowed me to turn iPhone off and write down simpler directions back to Thousand Oaks. Because I showed up after-ride at 4, Jerry's, to my chagrin, was closed...
