A beautiful, break in the atmospheric river, morning. The roads were half dry from yesterday's rain but there was still quite a bit of runoff.
Going through the little rivers of water each time, Emily would stand up. I was wondering why she was doing that because it seemed like she would only get more wet by doing that. She was standing up to protect her camera lens.
I asked, "With your butt? 🤣"
"No, with height."
When we got to Hawk Hill, Emily and I were wondering why the fence was blocking the bike lane at the bottom and why the gate was closed at the roundabout. It turns out it was closed because of rocks that had come down from the hillside, littering the road.
There was a ranger parked in the middle of the road and when we asked if we could still ride up, he said, "No, the road is closed but ride at your own f*cking risk!" I guess he wasn't happy with all the cyclists going around the gate?
At the top, Emily asked me to wait a minute so she could go ahead and setup to take a photo. I wasn't sure where she wanted to take the photo so I waited the full minute. Just as I started to go, I heard some brakes squealing behind me - another cyclist. Just my luck. I decided to wait so I could get a clear shot but then I realized this guy was babying his way down the descent. I also noticed he was dressed exactly like me and Asian and there was a pretty good chance Emily was going to mistake the guy for me.
Narrator - she did.
So I decided to head down. I'm glad I did because Emily was right around the corner and about to take off. Had I known she was going to be so close, I would've started sooner. But yeah, she thought that guy was me since she was just looking through her viewfinder.
At Arsicault, helping put something into Emily's musette that was filled with food she'd left at my place and that I was returning to her, she told me that buttoning or zipping up bags wasn't necessary and doing so was for losers. I started to button up her musette to prove a point but it was quite full and I was too lazy to try. 🤣
