Today looked like a ride of two halves, The first half was very flat along the plain and The second half looked very mountainous Which had me concerned.
As it happened the difficulty was the reverse.
The Spanish plain is a harsh place, very flat and no protection from the wind.
Still with that headwind every yard had to be peddled, it was fairly brutal. I felt like Cervantes Don Quixote, the man from La Mancha out on the wild Plain.
A few miles past Pozohondo I finally got off the plain by heading up into the Sierra ! And this was much easier riding as there were bends uphills and downhills offering protection from the wind.
I stopped in Lietor for lunch which consisted of soup and croquetas.
The croquetas were nice but much bigger than I expected. The soup tasted nice and had what I thought was bread in it, however, on close our inspection, the bread had a fatty rind on it. I have no idea what I ate my only thought was tripe !
As I left town I spotted a really good looking spring fountain and stopped to take some photographs.
Great cycling from Leitor all the way through to Yeste.
Lots of climbs, spectacular mountains, Rivers Bridges and tunnels. I was strong and made late work of the hills and arrived in Yeste in time to watch Newcastle play ... Happy days
